Police swarmed West Have High School on Friday, Nov. 15, just after 10 a.m. after a student reported seeing another student handle what they believed to be a handgun, authorities said.
The gun was not real, but airsoft weapons are designed to look like the real thing.
The student who brought the airsoft weapon left the school before officers arrived, but they found him nearby with the gun soon after, West Haven Police said.
Investigators said he brought the gun and hid it under a jacket. Another student took it out and held it when a third student saw it and flagged down the resource officer.
There was never a threat to students, but there is a zero-tolerance policy for bringing weapons to a school — even fake ones.
The students arrested were not identified because of their age, but they were charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, carrying a dangerous weapon, and disturbing the peace, West Haven Police said.
